Residents of Larkspur and neighboring communities have been concerned about the bridge rebuild, because other major construction projects are ongoing or in the pipeline to begin soon. The project will also make the span significantly wider to accommodate 10-foot-wide multiuse paths and 7-foot-wide shoulders. The Larkspur City Council awarded $26.7 million construction contract in March to Golden State Bridge Inc., a Benecia-based builder that submitted the lowest of four bids.Ībout 89 percent of the project is funded through the federal Highway Bridge Program and the city is on the hook for the balance of costs. Mayor Dan Hillmer said that during the work “we will be doing our best to see that the bridge will remain open” and that “we ask that the public observe the signing and flag persons that will guide traffic through the affected work areas.” ![]() “Other than that we won’t be detouring any traffic,” he said, noting that there will be signed detours and traffic control to guide drivers. The closures will be noticed well in advance and each will be scheduled for three separate weekends.
